Image(s); New River 5 miles north west of Imperial, Aug. 30, 1908 and New River cutting back, grade recession was at the rate of a foot per minute while passing Calexico. Falls 28 feet high. taken by Harry Thomas Cory (or staff member) working for the Southern Pacific Railroad from Calisphere and UCLA (University of California Los Angles), Library Special Collections, Charles E. Young Research Library

Note(s); There is a section in the center of the ‘Extraordinary Erosion of the New River Channel’ image that contains some digitized artifacts possibly from a scanning issue.

The ‘Cutback of the New River’ image as it is displayed on the Calisphere web site has a caption, “New River cutting back, grade recession was at the rate of a foot per minute while passing Calexico. Falls 28 feet high”, that might possibly mislead someone into believe these are pictures of 28 foot waterfalls.  They are only several feet tall as evidenced by a person standing back to the far left of photograph and the grass growing close to the water.
